Athletes, Tennis, Football, Rugby players etc, do go through exercises / warm-up sessions in a regular basis to keep themselves fit and also to minimize any injuries. Thus exercises / warm-up sessions are essential for such players to be successful. But have you ever thought that video gamers or particularly Nintendo Wii gamers require such exercises before playing games.
In the early days the answer was no. But you will be amazed to hear that latest news suggest that “Wii puts 10 people in hospitals every week”. According to the news it has been found that playing wii results in excruciating pain in right shoulder or knee. This is mainly due to playing games for long hours without exercises and holding the device in the same position for such a long time. Also it has been found that this may lead to rheumatism and arthritis in later life since players often have inflammation of the shoulder or wrist. This is known as Wii-itis
It has also been found that a large percentage of the patients are children between ages 8 to 13, but adults who are wii addicted too suffer from such injuries. But all those injuries can be cured using cortisone injections and anti-inflammatory pain killers and recovery takes about three months.
So is the answer to stop playing wii games? Certainly not, it is advised to carry out stretching exercises before playing and be professional gamers as athletes, tennis players etc.
