Bear in mind that the Nintendo DSi was preceded by 2 iterations of the core system: the original DS and the DS Lite. The Nintendo DSi isn’t considered as a new portable console. Rather, it’s just an improvement over previous versions of the system.

Now, a few months after its release and with the aid of Nintendo DSi review from all over the internet, we can come up with an answer to the question posted above: is the Nintendo DSi necessary?

First in our list of Nintendo DSi reviews is Business Week Magazine, which believes that the DSi is “well worth the money,” a statement that is tantamount to saying that the DSi is something that people – DS owners and non-DS owners alike – should get. Business Week Magazine gave the system the fantastic score of 4.5 out of 5.

But of all the Nintendo DSi reviews available, Business Week Magazine’s carries the least weight. After all, Business Week Magazine does not specialize in video games.

But what do the video game websites say about the DSi?

IGN, one of the web’s biggest video game websites, can provide a more accurate opinion among the many Nintendo DSi reviews available. IGN gave the portable a score of 7.8 out of 10, worth considering but not really a “must buy.” According to IGN, the Nintendo DSi is a “worthwhile” upgrade to the previously released DS Lite. The systems biggest drawback, however, is the removal of the slot for GBA cartridges, effectively removing backward compatibility from the handheld.

PC World gave the portable the score of 7.5 out of 10. The website played it safe by saying that the DSi packed some nifty upgrades to an already impressive gaming system.

Bit-Tech refused to provide a numeric score, saying instead that though the Nintendo DSi comes with fantastic new features like dual cameras, improved audio playback, a more powerful processor, a sleeker design, better wifi connectivity, and the likes, it does not justify a purchase from existing owners of previous DS units.

And the most accurate of these Nintendo DSi reviews?

CNET summed it up best by saying that though purchasing the new Nintendo DSi remains a mere option for people who already own a DS or a DS Lite, the Nintendo DSi is still a marvelous piece of technological wonder that is very much worth considering. CNET gave the system a score of 3.5/5.

Last month, that is around thanksgiving of 2009, Amazon offered the Wii Fit Plus with Balance Board for $89.99. That was a $10 savings from the original price that was $99.99. However, today it has shot up to $97.99 giving you only a $2 saving. Yeah, I know, that’s not a lot. This may probably be due to the high demand for the Wii Fit this Christmas.

However you could still get the Wii Fit Balance Board for $89.99 from Buy.com. But remember, this is Wii Fit and not Wii Fit Plus. In other words this version is slightly outdated and you won’t get all the additional features of Wii Fit Plus. You can read about the ‘Plus’ and the different types of bundles on Wii Fit Bundles. The Wii Fit with the balance board uses multiple sensors (four sensors per Wii Fit Balance Board) to achieve its goal. For example let’s say there are two sensors, one on each half of the Wii Fit w/balance board. Say you are in a boxing game (beating up your boss) and you duck to the left to evade a punch you got on your right chin. What happens to your weight distribution? It will shift predominantly to your left foot thus less to your right foot right? This is correctly identified by the Wii Fit with Balance Board sensors and transforms that information to a leftwards movement and says “ok buddy you didn’t take that punch! Nice ducking! As mentioned on our earlier posts, the Wii Fit Balance Board uses data from four different sensors to estimate the weight distribution of the ‘gamer on board’. There are actually two sensors on either side and the complex Japanese electro-magnetics and computation is able to accurately estimate each fine movement made by the person standing on the balance board. This is the unique feature of the Nintendo Wii compared to an Xbox 360 or Sony PlayStation.

The experience is absolutely unique. You can check that out on the website http://us.wii.com/soft_wiifit.jsp There are videos there that show U.S. gold medalists Heather O’Reilly and Heather Mitts playing Wii Fit. There are also other videos of first time Wii Fit gamers playing all sorts of games such as the Hula loop, Ski Jump, Soccer Heading, Tree, Ski slalom, Palm Tree, Push-up and Side plank, Tightrope walk and so on and so forth. Nintendo Wii Fit with Balance Board and its concept were originally announced by the extremely famous game designer Shigeru Miyamoto in 2007, at the famous E3 conference. The Wii Fit was first launched in Japan, in December of 2007. It was the way the Japanese Sumo wrestlers did the weigh-ins that sparked the idea about the Wii Fit. These heavy wrestlers have to use two scales. The electronics of the two scales are integrated so that it can compute the cumulative weight of the sumo wrestler by taking data from the two separate scales. This is the very principle that has been applied in case of the Wii Fit Balance Board. Measuring your weight is not the only thing it does, it is extremely sensitive to all the fine movements gamers make. It does this by determining your center of gravity. It uses information such as height, together with the weight, makes a virtual map of your center of gravity and tracks all your fine (and gross) movements extremely accurately. Aint that something special?
The balance board is also rarely known as the Wii Fit sports balance board. This is essentially part of the wii fit bundle and this christmas seazon, it was one of the hottest items to be sold on ebay and amazon if not the hottest gaming system.

According to Walmart, they have 1000s of Nintendo Wii Bundles in stock. There are four options. First and the most basic is to buy the console only at $249.24.
Then you can get the “value” bundle for $329 which includes an extra remote and nunchuk plus your choice of one “value” game (for example Ben 10: Protector of Earth or Freddi Fish). In addition you also get a Wii accessory starter kit.
The next level is known as the “customer choice” bundle which sells at $359. Like the previous one, this also includes an extra remote and nunchuk plus the same accessory starter kit. Here you have a better choice on the game selection where you can choose more recent and more expensive games such as Madden NFL 09 or LEGO Batman.
The next level of the Wii Bundle in stock are known as the “family fun” bundle which sells for $399. This bundle includes the extra remote and nunchuk plus the accessory starter kit just like the previous two kits. In addition, you get an extra game here. The first two Wii bundles, you only had one game and with this, you get a second Wii game as well.

In addition to the unique wireless Wii remote controller, Nintendo Wii Fit uses another unique platform peripheral, the wireless Wii Fit Balance Board. The Wii Fit with Wii balance board measures a user’s weight and center of gravity and then the Wii Fit software calculates the body mass.

It has a plain white top with a light grey bottom. It requires four AA batteries, which last for about 60 hours. The Wii Fit balance board contains multiple pressure sensors (four) that are used to measure the user’s center of balance and body mass index. Although the Wii Fit with Wii balance board will only display weight readings up to 330lbs, the actual physical structure of the Wii balance board is able to withstand up to 300 kg or 660 pounds.
